Zakat Selangor Privacy Notice

Lembaga Zakat Selangor (“Zakat Selangor”) is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

This notice outlines how Zakat Selangor collects, records, holds, stores, organizes, modifies, discloses, uses, and destroys your personal data in relation to zakat collection and distribution activities at Zakat Selangor (hereinafter referred to as “processing”).

“Zakat Selangor” or “we” in this notice refers to the Zakat Selangor headquarters and its branches in Selangor.

“Personal Data” refers to any information concerning commercial transactions that is directly or indirectly related to an individual, which identifies or can identify the individual from that information alone or in combination with other information held by Zakat Selangor, including any sensitive personal data and opinions expressed about that individual.

“Sensitive Personal Data” refers to information about an individual’s health or physical or mental condition, political opinions, religious beliefs and other similar beliefs, any criminal conduct or proceedings against them, biometric data, or any other personal data as determined by the Minister responsible for personal data protection through orders published in the official gazette.

“Biometric Data” refers to any personal data generated from technical processing related to an individual’s physical, physiological, or behavioral characteristics.

Notification and Consent

When you request information or use the services of Zakat Selangor, you may be required to provide your personal data to Zakat Selangor. By doing so, you consent to the use of your personal data by Zakat Selangor in accordance with this Notice. Your personal data may also have been submitted to Zakat Selangor by a third party (for example, by your spouse, a company in which you are a director, officer, or shareholder, or a partnership in which you are a partner) for services required by that third party from Zakat Selangor. In this context, the term “you” in this Notice also applies to any individual whose personal data has been submitted to Zakat Selangor and/or obtained through methods as described in Section 4 of this Notice.

You have the option, at any time, not to provide your personal data or to withdraw your consent to allow Zakat Selangor to process your personal data. However, failure to provide such personal data or your withdrawal of consent to process the personal data provided may result in Zakat Selangor being unable to provide services to you effectively and continuously.

What types of personal data do we collect?

The types of personal data we collect include, but are not limited to, name, contact address, age, occupation, marital status, financial information, identification card, passport, place of birth, and your transaction history.

We may collect your sensitive personal data if you are dealing with Zakat Selangor and it requires you to disclose such sensitive personal data to us.

We will only use your sensitive personal data to provide the services you require. If we process your sensitive personal data, we will obtain your consent beforehand.

The personal data we collect may be categorized as either mandatory or voluntarily provided. Mandatory personal data refers to data that we require in order to provide our services to you. If you do not provide such data, we will not be able to provide our services to you. Voluntarily provided personal data refers to data that is not required for us to provide our services. If you do not provide such data, you may still use our services.

Please note that once we receive confirmation of your request to withdraw consent for marketing or promotional materials, it may take up to fourteen (14) business days for the withdrawal to be reflected in our system. During this period, you may still receive marketing or promotional materials.

Please note that even if you choose not to receive marketing or promotional materials, Zakat Selangor may still contact you for other purposes unrelated to marketing or promotions, such as matters relating to your account, facilities, or existing services provided by Zakat Selangor.

If you have submitted a third party’s personal data to Zakat Selangor, please ensure that you have obtained consent from the relevant third party for the processing and disclosure of their personal data and that this Policy has been presented to the third party in advance.

How do we protect your data?

The security of your personal data is our priority. Zakat Selangor takes all necessary physical, technical, and organizational measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of personal data. If we disclose any personal data to the parties listed in Section 6, they are obligated to properly protect the personal data provided to them.

Zakat Selangor has appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure ongoing compliance with Act 709. In the event of a data breach, you should report the incident (such as data leaks or unauthorized use of data by third parties) to the DPO via email at dpo@zakatselangor.com.my.

How long do we retain your personal data?

We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or to comply with legal and regulatory requirements as well as internal needs.

Changes to this Policy

Please note that we may update this Policy from time to time. If there are significant changes to this Policy, we will notify you by displaying a notice of the changes on our website within a timeframe we deem appropriate. Zakat Selangor may only refuse your request to access your personal data if your identity cannot be verified.

This includes managing and maintaining your account, responding to any inquiries you may have, and also for evaluation and marketing purposes. Failure to provide your personal data, or withdrawing your consent for the processing of your personal data, may result in Zakat Selangor being unable to effectively and continuously provide products and services related to you.

If you do not give consent to Zakat Selangor for marketing purposes, Zakat Selangor will stop sending marketing materials/notifications about products and services to you. However, Zakat Selangor may still use your personal data to provide the products or services you have registered for, in order to fulfil contractual requirements, as well as for legal or regulatory purposes.

You may withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal data at any time by contacting any Zakat Selangor branch, calling the Zakat Selangor Hotline at 1300-88-4343, or by visiting www.zakatselangor.com.my.  

Zakat Selangor may take up to 14 working days before the withdrawal of consent is reflected in the system. This is because the withdrawal notice must go through a verification process across the entire Zakat Selangor group. Therefore, you may still receive marketing or promotional materials/notifications during this period.

If Zakat Selangor provides your personal data to an authorised third party, Zakat Selangor will ensure that they are under the same obligation to adequately protect the personal data entrusted to them.

Zakat Selangor will only retain your personal data for a specific period to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or to comply with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements of Zakat Selangor.

Yes, if the personal data is processed in Malaysia before being transferred to parties outside Malaysia, it will be protected under the PDPA. However, the PDPA does not protect personal data that is processed outside Malaysia.

Once you have done this, you will no longer receive marketing materials/notifications about products or services from Zakat Selangor. However, Zakat Selangor may still use your personal data to provide the products or services you have registered for, in order to fulfill contractual requirements and for legal or regulatory purposes.

You may withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal data at any time by contacting any Zakat Selangor branch.
