An emergency call was received at the Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) branch when a married couple, along with a small child, arrived carrying only a few bags. They had just been evicted from their family home.
The information was immediately forwarded to Skuad Saidina Umar (SSU), who took swift action to investigate the situation. It turned out that this small family were new converts to Islam last year.
Unfortunately, a month ago, the husband was involved in a road accident that caused serious injuries, including a broken leg and pelvis, leaving him unable to work.
The situation worsened due to misunderstandings with family members who were not Muslim. His inability to work and support the family was seen as a burden, ultimately resulting in their eviction.
With fragile health and nowhere to go, they came to the LZS branch feeling confused, scared, and lost.
Seeing the urgency, LZS immediately arranged temporary accommodation to ensure the family was not left without shelter, while preparations for a new rental home were underway.
Amid the joy of Ramadan nearing its end, many are still facing severe trials. It is here that zakat plays its role as a protector and bearer of hope.
LZS will continue to stand by those who are marginalized and tested, because every individual deserves to experience love and care, especially in this blessed month.
